Frazz author Jef Mallett to attempt the SavageMan 100.0 "True Savage" Double
SavageMan Triathlon Festival welcomes Frazz creator Jef Mallett!

Jef Mallet is the author and illustrator of the award-winning and nationally syndicated comic strip Frazz, which runs in over 160 newspapers in the U.S. and Canada and at http://comics.com/frazz. Jef also writes a regular column for Inside Triathlon and VeloNews, and is the author of numerous triathlon focused books, including his latest: Trizophrenia: Inside the Minds of a Triathlete.

In 2010 Jef is attempting the SavageMan 100.0 "True Savage" Double by competing in both the SavageMan 30.0 and SavageMan 70.0 triathlons. Jef completed the SavageMan 70.0 in 2008 and has a brick in the Westernport Wall with his name on it.

Jef will speak to the SavageMan Champion Fundraisers at the Carbo-load Reception and Dinner on Saturday evening. Jef will also be available to sign copies of Trizophrenia and SavageMan themed Frazz strips during the 70.0 Finish Line Party (after he finishes, of course...)

SavageMan - World's Most Beautiful and Most Savage Triathlons! Are you interested in a race that will one minute leave you gasping for breath on a steep climb and the next minute leave you gasping in awe at a stunning vista?

Would you like a race where there are challenges beyond just how fast you can go or what place you can finish?

Do you like finisher's shirts, medals, and other keepsakes? How would you like opportunity to stake your claim to triathlon immortality and earn a personalized engraved brick laid in the road of the steepest climb in all of triathlon?

Are you frustrated with drafting packs and bland, uninspiring courses at mediocre venues?

Are you interested in a race where all of the proceeds go to support melanoma research?

Deep Creek Lake and the pristine, rugged Allegheny Mountains of western Maryland, provide a venue of unmatched beauty and stunning scenery, and feature two courses that will certainly bring out the true "Savage" in all who come to conquer, from the competitive Ironman racer to the leisurely back-of-the-pack or novice participant. Whether swimming in the crystal clear Deep Creek Lake, riding the smooth, remote, and challenging roads of Garrett County, or running on Deep Creek State Park trails and the surrounding lakeside roads, the SavageMan Triathlon Festival races will challenge and awe every participant.

If such a triathlon event appeals to you then you will love the SavageMan Triathlon Festival.

Are You Savage Enough? How hard is the SavageMan really? Am I Savage Enough?

That is a question only you can answer. The bike course of the SavageMan 70.0 Triathlon is extreme and is legitimately the toughest 56 mile bike in triathlon with 5800 feet of climbing nearly all gained in the middle 30 miles and 7 climbs with pitches in excess of 15%. It is a course that leaves no one unimpressed and no one unhappy, but it is also a course not to underestimate.

The SavageMan 30.0 Triathlon, on the other hand, is a course designed for the more mainstream triathlete. A "Garrett County flat" and rolling bike - with one steep climb included to earn the SavageMan pedigree - and a gentle, rolling run deliver a SavageMan race with all the beauty and just a small sampling of the hills!

"TRI-TO-WIN....the fight against melanoma" Events benefit the Joanna M. Nicolay Melanoma Foundation – the SavageMan Festival organizer and host. Melanoma is the most serious and lethal form of skin cancer accounting for 79% of all skin cancer deaths. This savage cancer is a potential threat to the full spectrum of active and casual outdoor sports enthusiasts - and that especially includes triathletes. All proceeds benefit the Foundation known as, the "voice of melanoma prevention, detection, care and cure."

Be a SavageMan "Champion" and actively fundraise to join in the fight against melanoma.
